Sometimes, creating a healthy smile starts before all of your child’s permanent teeth have arrived.
Two-phase orthodontic treatment allows us to address certain problems with jaw growth, spacing, crowding, or tooth alignment early, then complete treatment once your child’s smile has developed further.
Phase I treatment typically happens between ages 7 and 10 and addresses developing concerns with jaw growth, width, crowding, crossbites, or front tooth alignment. When early treatment is recommended, we aim to keep it short, simple, and affordable, with many Phase I treatments completed in about nine months.
Phase I does not replace comprehensive orthodontic treatment. After a typical 12 to 24-month break for continued growth and development, Phase II focuses on bringing the teeth and bite into their final positions. Addressing key concerns earlier can often make this phase shorter and more efficient, with the goal to make the best path toward a perfect smile and perfect bite for each patient.
